Moksha Dwar — A final farewell with grace and dignity.

वासांसि जीर्णानि यथा विहाय

Vāsāṁsi jīrṇāni yathā vihāya navāni gṛhṇāti naro 'parāṇi —
tathā śarīrāṇi vihāya jīrṇāny anyāni saṁyāti navāni dehī
— Bhagavad Gita · 2.22

Just as a person discards worn-out garments and puts on new ones, the soul too sheds the old body and takes on a new one. Death is not an end — only a passage.

A Legacy of Compassion and Dignity Since 1967

Established in 1967, Punjabi Bagh Shamshan Bhoomi (Moksha Dwar) has served as a sanctuary of peace for over five decades. Managed officially by The Punjabi Bagh Co-operative Housing Society Ltd. (PBCHS), our facility is recognized as the most organized and spiritually significant cremation ground in West Delhi.

The grounds are anchored by the monumental presence of Lord Shiva at the entrance, symbolizing the journey of the soul toward liberation. Unlike private vendors, the PBCHS ensures that every family receives transparent, MCD-regulated services. Our layout features wide pathways, lush green buffers, and multiple ritual stations designed to provide a calm environment for hundreds of daily visitors.

Known locally as the Punjabi Bagh Shamshan Gat, we offer a comprehensive ecosystem for final rites. From the initial booking at our administrative office to the final collection of ashes, our dedicated staff guides you through every Vedic protocol, ensuring that the final farewell is conducted with the utmost grace and cultural precision.

Sacred rituals at Punjabi Bagh Shamshan Bhoomi

Sacred Traditions

Vedic Rites & The Final Journey

Antim Sanskar

The Antim Sanskar, or the last rite, is the final of the 16 sacraments (Sanskars) in a Hindu's life. At Punjabi Bagh Shamshan Bhoomi, we ensure these rituals are performed with strict adherence to Vedic scriptures. The body is treated as an offering to Agni (the God of Fire), who acts as a medium between the physical world and the spiritual realm. Our Pandit Jis assist in the Mukhagni ceremony, ensuring that the eldest son or relative performs the rites with full understanding of the mantras.

Sanchayan & Asthi

Following the cremation, the ritual of Asthi Sanchayan (collection of remains) is a critical step. This usually takes place on the third day, but our facility provides locker support for families who need more time. The collection of ashes is done with milk and sacred water, preparing the remains for Asthi Visarjan. Whether you choose the holy Ganges in Haridwar or the Yamuna in Delhi, we provide the necessary urns (Kalash) and transport guidance to facilitate this transition.

Shuddhi & Prayer

The period following cremation is one of reflection and purification (Shuddhi). Our team coordinates with local venues and priests for the Chautha and Tehravin ceremonies. These prayer meets serve not only as a tribute to the departed soul but also as a communal support system for the grieving family. By providing a structured environment for these prayers at the Punjabi Bagh Shamshan Gat, we help families find the closure needed to move forward.

Management Guidelines & Facility Protocols

Official Conduct

As an institution managed by The Punjabi Bagh Co-operative Housing Society Ltd., we maintain a strict code of conduct. Professionalism and silence are mandatory within the Moksha Dwar premises. We advise all visitors to be wary of unauthorized "agents" or middle-men. All payments for wood, CNG, and services must be made directly at the official counter against a valid MCD receipt.

Environmental Responsibility

In alignment with the National Green Tribunal (NGT) directives, we actively encourage families to opt for CNG cremation. It is a pollution-free method that consumes significantly less energy while maintaining the sanctity of the rites. For those choosing wood pyres, we ensure the use of dry, high-quality timber to minimize smoke emissions, supporting Delhi's environmental goals.

Emergency & Support

Our 24/7 helpline (9217577311) is dedicated to emergency body transport. During peak summer months (April to September), the high volume of services may lead to wait times for wood pyres; however, our management works tirelessly to allocate slots efficiently. We recommend calling ahead to check availability, especially during the compulsory slip verification window of 1:30 PM to 4:00 PM.

Security & Safety

The Shamshan Bhoomi is equipped with CCTV surveillance and on-site security personnel to ensure the safety of all visitors. We provide dedicated lockers for the short-term storage of Asthi (remains) and have designated areas for the performance of Pinda Daan and other post-cremation rituals to ensure the grounds remain organized and clean for all families.
